worn out

end of year in first grade

How about this heat?

Anyone else out there teaching in an un-air-conditioned classroom?  It is almost unbearable at this time of the year in the midwest.  If we mention that we're miserable, we are reminded---our classrooms were not air conditioned when we grew up.  And I say---People did not live as long back then either!------ha!Big Smile

We didn't have air conditioning until the early 1970's in Texas.  It was so hot!  I don't think I could take it today.

My first couple of years, we didn't have AC either.  It is very difficult to teach under those conditions but we did it anyway.  Now, even the buses have AC.  Of course, I live in Phoenix in the middle of Monsoon season.

I remember the gnats and the fans from my elementary days.  It was hard to concentrate.  Later on when I was a teacher, we had to wear dresses and hose.  It didn't matter how hot it was.  We were soaked with perspiration at the end of those September days.

About emptynester

This coming year will be my 31st year of teaching. I like my job, but I am becoming increasingly tired and worn out at certain times of the year like May, September, and December. I hope to talk to other teachers to help me keep charged up so I can do my best for my remaining years of teaching. We have a lot of poverty in our area, so we have an increasing number of special ed students and child abuse incidences.
